The maidenhair tree is a deciduous gymnosperm of upright to conical habit, grown for its distinctive fan-shaped leaves with dichotomous parallel venation and for the clear golden-yellow autumn colour the foliage takes before falling. 'Blagon' refines the species form to a markedly columnar outline, reaching roughly 12 to 15 metres in height but only 3 to 5 metres across, the narrow dense crown turning the autumn display into a vertical column of gold. This makes it a working answer to tree pits, alignments, and formal schemes where a full-spreading canopy will not fit.

Hardiness is the species' strongest specification argument. Ginkgo is reliably winter-hardy from USDA zone 3 through zone 9, withstanding minima well below minus 30 degrees Celsius, so 'Blagon' performs without winter protection from the Aegean coast to southern Scandinavia and across the continental interior to the Pannonian basin and beyond.
