About this Cultivar

The species is reliably hardy through USDA zones 5 to 7b, withstanding winter minima to approximately minus 25 °C in continental conditions and somewhat lower in well-rested stands. Performance is dependable across the Atlantic seaboard, the lowland zones of France, Germany, Benelux, southern Scandinavia and the British Isles, and extends into the cooler parts of Central Europe and the western Balkans. Northern limit is roughly southern Sweden and southern Norway; the eastern edge of reliable performance runs through Poland into the western Carpathians.

Fagus sylvatica is intolerant of prolonged summer heat above 35 °C and of summer drought. It is not a defensible specification for the Mediterranean basin south of the Pyrenees, the Aegean coast, inland Iberia, or any continental site with summer rainfall below roughly 500 mm and no irrigation.
