Mature height of 12 to 18 m with a crown spread of only 1.5 to 2 m gives a near-columnar habit on a single straight stem, branches held tight against the trunk from low on the bole. Growth is moderate. The cultivar reads as architectural form rather than canopy, positioning it as a vertical accent or repeated unit in tight alignments rather than a shade tree. The palmate five-lobed leaves carry the species character through summer in glossy mid-green, then turn through yellow, orange, red and purple in autumn, the colour holding into the cooler weeks of November in Portuguese conditions.

For a Portuguese project schedule, applications follow directly from the geometry. Narrow street alignments (arruamentos) where building lines or services rule out a standard plane or lime, courtyard plantings and inner-block patios, vertical punctuation in contemporary garden design, and rhythmic repetition along walls or pool axes are typical specifications. The form behaves as a column, not a screen: planted at 2 to 3 m centres it reads as a colonnade, at 4 to 5 m as a series of accents.

Field-grown by Diaplant in Amarante on roughly 950 mm of annual rainfall and the mild Atlantic winters of the upper Tâmega valley, the cultivar establishes reliably across the country. In Greater Lisbon, the Minho and the Douro the species is at home on the acidic to neutral soils it prefers, with the most consistent autumn colour. In coastal Algarve and resort schemes the cultivar performs once established, but supplementary irrigation through the first two summers is advisable and calcareous soils may cause iron chlorosis.

Maintenance is light: formative pruning is rarely needed, and crown lifting is unnecessary on the narrow habit. The species produces the characteristic spiny gum-ball fruits, which fall through winter and into spring and should be considered where paving, parking bays, or pedestrian circulation sit directly beneath the canopy. Root behaviour is shallow on the parent species, arguing for a generous open soil volume (torrão bem dimensionado) at planting and a setback from kerbs and slabs.
