'Slender Silhouette' holds the species' star-shaped, glossy palmate foliage and full autumn spectrum of yellow, orange, red, and purple, but on a tightly fastigiate frame reaching about 12 to 18 m in height against only 1.5 to 2 m of width at maturity. The crown reads as a dense vertical column rather than the broad pyramid of the type, which is the entire point of specifying it: the autumn-colour value of Liquidambar in volumes where Acer platanoides, Tilia or Platanus would overshoot the available footprint.

Winter hardiness follows the parent species, reliable across roughly USDA zones 5b to 9 and tolerant of absolute minima near minus 20 °C, which covers most of the European urban tree canon from the Mediterranean basin through Atlantic, Pannonian, and southern Baltic conditions. Performance is reliable through the Po valley, coastal Benelux, Polish lowlands, and southern Scandinavia; in continental zone 5 winters and the colder uplands, foliage may be cut by early frost before full colour develops, which is a species characteristic rather than a cultivar flaw.

Full sun is required for the autumn display to express itself. Soils should be deep, fresh, and free-draining; the tree accepts a wide pH range and tolerates clay, sand, and moderate compaction, but chlorosis appears on shallow, strongly alkaline ground with low organic matter. Heat tolerance is high and the cultivar withstands prolonged summer maxima above 35 °C with adequate root volume; drought tolerance is moderate, so irrigation through the establishment phase is needed on dry sites, and salt tolerance is low.

The narrow habit makes it a defensible specification for tight street alignments, podium plantings, screening strips along built edges, and the rhythmic vertical accents that contemporary masterplans often call for. The species' spiny fruit capsules persist through winter and should be considered where pedestrian surfaces or maintenance regimes are sensitive to fallen litter.
