Liquidambar styraciflua 'Worplesdon' carries a tighter, more vertical crown than the straight species, reaching roughly 15 to 20 metres tall and 6 to 8 metres wide at maturity. The palmate, deeply lobed foliage holds glossy mid-green through spring and summer, then turns to red, orange and purple in autumn, generally more consistent and earlier than the type. Crown geometry suits avenue planting (alineaciones), boulevards and medium-spaced grid plantings where adjacent canopies must not collide.

Hardy to roughly minus 23 C, it performs reliably across the Atlantic northwest (cornisa cantabrica), the cooler Pyrenean foothills and the northern half of the meseta. In the hot, alkaline-soil belts of the Levante and southeast, performance weakens: leaves are prone to iron chlorosis on calcareous substrates, and autumn colour intensity depends on a genuine drop in temperature, which the southern coastal climate does not deliver. Best results are on fertile, fresh, well-drained acidic to neutral soils.

Water demand is moderate. Establishment requires regular irrigation through the first two or three summers; once anchored, the species tolerates short dry episodes but does not match Mediterranean natives such as Celtis australis or Quercus ilex under prolonged irrigation cut-off. Position it where the project's water envelope supports summer supplementation rather than zero-input regimes.

The root system is relatively shallow and benefits from generous, decompacted pits in urban contexts; pavement compatibility is workable in adequately sized openings rather than narrow trench plantings. Disease and pest pressure under Iberian conditions is low; the genus sits outside the principal Spanish phytosanitary concerns (Xylella fastidiosa, Ceratocystis platani, Cydalima perspectalis). The spiny capsular fruits drop from December through early spring and warrant a maintenance note in plaza or pedestrian contexts where slip and clean-up are programmed into the pliego de condiciones.
