{# A tabela de LOTES (§C, «zoom no lote») foi movida para baixo das características (botânica em cima, lotes em baixo — reunião 24/07). Ver #crm-lotes mais abaixo. #}A strictly columnar selection of the American sweet gum, suited to alignments and confined planting strips where canopy spread is constrained. Hardy across the German Klimaregionen, with reliable autumn colour in continental conditions.
Key Facts
About this Cultivar
Liquidambar styraciflua 'Slender Silhouette' (Amerikanischer Amberbaum) reaches 12 to 18 metres in height with a crown only 1.5 to 2 metres wide, a fastigiate Habitusform that distinguishes it from the typical broad-pyramidal species form. The narrow column lets the cultivar carry the autumn performance of the species into planting volumes too tight for the parent: tramway reservations, kerb-to-facade strips of three metres or less, courtyards in inner-city redevelopment. Anchor against fastigiate Carpinus betulus 'Frans Fontaine' or the columnar Quercus robur 'Fastigiata Koster' when defending the specification to German partners; Slender Silhouette gives a sharper vertical line and a stronger autumn show than either.
The species is reliably hardy across Germany. Parent populations span USDA 5a to 9b, corresponding to winter minima around minus 28 degrees Celsius, so the cultivar performs from the Oberrheingraben (Upper Rhine valley) and Niederrheinische Bucht (Lower Rhine basin)…

The species is reliably hardy across Germany. Parent populations span USDA 5a to 9b, corresponding to winter minima around minus 28 degrees Celsius, so the cultivar performs from the Oberrheingraben (Upper Rhine valley) and Niederrheinische Bucht (Lower Rhine basin) through the central uplands and into the colder eastern Klimaregionen east of the Elbe. Late spring frosts can scorch emerging foliage on exposed sites in the voralpenland (pre-Alpine foothills); a sheltered Standort is sensible above 400 metres.
Standortansprüche follow the species: full sun for the autumn display, deep fresh loams with reliable summer moisture, and a preference for neutral to acidic substrates. Performance on Rhine loess and the brown earths of the central uplands is sound; chronic chlorosis is a risk on calcareous soils above pH 7.5, and the cultivar should not be specified on shallow chalk or unimproved Bavarian limestone without substrate intervention.
De-icing salt tolerance is low, so street-tree use is limited to alignments with managed winter regimes or sufficient set-back from the carriageway. Stadtbaumeignung is otherwise strong: the species is documented as resistant to soil compaction and tolerates the heat-island stress of inner-city sites. The genus is not currently under significant phytosanitary pressure in central Europe, which positions the cultivar as a defensible Zukunftsbaum candidate where the planting volume rules out broader-crowned alternatives.
