Winter hardiness (Winterhärte) is not the limiting factor for this cultivar. As a clonal selection of Fagus sylvatica, the dominant native broadleaf across the central German uplands and the Mittelgebirge, it withstands the winter minima of every German Klimaregion, including the continental cold of the eastern lowlands east of the Elbe and the colder valleys of the voralpenland (pre-Alpine foothills). Established trees tolerate sustained minima below minus 25 degrees Celsius without dieback; the cultivar inherits the species' Winterhärte in full.

The binding constraint is summer moisture, not winter cold. Fagus sylvatica has a shallow, plate-like root system (flachwurzelnde Habitusform) and a large leaf area relative to other European hardwoods, which makes it sensitive to summer drought and to compacted, sealed urban substrates. The 2018 to 2022 sequence of hot dry summers caused measurable canopy stress and pre-senescent leafdrop in mature Rotbuche stands across the Rheinland and central German Mittelgebirge; specification should account for this. The cultivar is not a Stadtbaum candidate in the sense of the GALK-Straßenbaumliste, and salt tolerance (Streusalztoleranz) is low. It is excluded from any alignment along salted carriageways.

Standortansprüche are precise. Deep, fresh, free-draining loams with reliable summer moisture; full sun to light shade; pH from mildly acidic to calcareous once established. Performance is reliable on Rhine loess, on the brown earths of the central uplands, and on the deeper glacial soils of the north German lowlands (norddeutsche Tiefebene); it is marginal on the dry sandy substrates of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg without supplementary irrigation through establishment.

The specification case is the Habitusform. A mature 'Pendula' reaches 15 to 20 metres in height with a crown of 15 to 25 metres, formed of long arching primary limbs and a curtain of pendulous secondary shoots, each tree assuming an individual silhouette under early training. Ovate dark green summer foliage turns golden bronze in autumn over the smooth grey bark characteristic of the species; the bare-limbed winter structure carries the planting through leaf-off.

Functionally, the role is the historic Solitärbaum of the German Landschaftspark tradition (Wörlitz, Branitz, Muskau, Sanssouci) translated to contemporary parkland, Kurpark, large-grounds, and memorial-garden settings.
