Ver #crm-lotes mais abaixo. #}A large evergreen specimen conifer for parkland and estate settings in milder German Klimaregionen, Cedrus deodara (Himalayazeder) performs reliably in the Oberrheingraben and Niederrheinische Bucht, carrying scale and year-round structure through warm-summer lowland sites.
About this Species
Winter hardiness (Winterhärte) is the governing constraint. Established trees of typical seed origin tolerate roughly minus 15 degrees Celsius on free-draining soil in sheltered positions; minus 12 degrees Celsius is a more conservative working limit for open sites and for the first three winters, when young wood is most exposed. Performance is reliable in the Upper Rhine valley (Oberrheingraben), the Lower Rhine basin (Niederrheinische Bucht), and comparable mild Klimaregionen; the species is marginal east of the Elbe and above roughly 400 metres in the pre-Alpine foothills (voralpenland). Provenance is material: seed from the western end of the natural range, in Afghanistan and northern Pakistan, is more cold-tolerant than lower-altitude eastern material, and the Paktia Group clones selected in Germany extend reliable cultivation further north and east.

Site requirements (Standortansprüche) are exacting on drainage. The species performs on deep, free-draining loams, sands, and loess; it tolerates calcareous substrates to about pH 8 once established but prefers slightly acid to neutral soils. Stagnant moisture, heavy compaction, and the wet-cold combination of poorly drained sites in the norddeutsche Tiefebene produce root rot and decline. Drought tolerance is moderate to good once rooted in, consistent with observed performance through the 2018 to 2022 sequence of dry summers in central Europe.
Street tree suitability (Stadtbaumeignung) is limited and the species is not part of the GALK-Straßenbaumliste Stadtbaum-Kanon. Confined root volumes, routine de-icing salt loads (salt tolerance is low), and formative pruning regimes do not suit the natural pendulous habitus. The defensible role is the solitary specimen on Parkanlage, Kurpark, Friedhof, and Villengarten sites, where mature height of 20 to 40 metres and a pendulous crown of 8 to 12 metres carry a long sight line.
The habitus (Habitusform) is pyramidal in youth, broadening with age as the leader gives way and lateral branching spreads horizontally with weeping branchlet tips. Foliage is fine, grey-green to silver-blue depending on clone, evergreen and structurally present through the long German leaf-off season. The species carries no significant pest or disease pressure in central European cultivation and is not implicated in the issues affecting Fraxinus, Buxus, Aesculus, or Ulmus.
